An Extremely rare First Period Dr Wall Worcester Chamberstick, modelled in the ‘silver taste’, of circular shape with rising central leaf moulded sconce, applied at one side with a scroll moulded handle issuing from a stylised mask beneath, the scroll moulded border picked out in puce and gold, the centre painted with sprays of European flowers.
odelled from a silver original form and probably from a modell devised or certainly chosen as inspiration by John Toulouse a brilliant modeller known for figures and flowers who had been persuaded to move from Bow to Worcester by Dr Wall. The shape has some relevance to the silverwork of Paul de Lamerie and would have been a highly fashionable shape of the day. Rare surviving examples are pierced under the sconce to allow the candle end to be poked through rather than being gauged out.
