Further Details
The famille rose decoration found at Chelsea is extremely rare at this date. The body exhibits characteristics signs of tin oxide in the glaze creating a whiter body for the Japanese formal shape. The famille rose style can also be found at the Worcester porcelain manufactory started by Dr. Wall in 1751/52. For two Chelsea octanonal teapots with similar short spouts and Asian inspired decoration, see Elizabeth Adams, Chelsea Porcelain, London 1987, P.61 No. 48 and F.Severne Mackenna, Chelsea Porcelain, The Triangle and Raised Anchor Wares, Leigh-on-Sea, 1948, Plate Pl. 20, No. 46.
