Fine Worcester Fluted Circular Dish, Circa 1768
A Very Fine Worcester Fluted Circular Dish, beautifully decorated with large and small panels of European flowers including: irises, roses, auriculas, chrysanthemum and dry blue flowers within gold scrolled rococo cartouches, reserved upon a blue scale ground gilt with single campanulas.
This excellent example of a large decorative shape from the senior pieces of a dessert service shows how the Worcester painters lavished their skill in flower painting to a high degree of detail and precision. The addition of the Irises and larger roses are rare inclusions however the dry blue flowers are seen only on these the best examples of the painting found on blue scale wares.
Marks: Blue seal mark in underglaze blue to the underside of the base
