Pair of Meissen Cockerel Teapots and Covers, Circa 1735
Rare Meissen Hen Teapots and Covers.
(Hahnenhanne) modelled by J.J. Kaendler.
Blue crossed swords marks.
Both teapots enamelled with bright iron-red, blue, purple, green and black plumage enriched in gilt and gilt “Laub-und-Bandelwerk” panels on the neck and on either side of the cover emplacement. Both covers modelled as dogs, the dog in black in a recumbent position.
The teapots are among the earliest pieces modelled by J.J. Kaendler. Their strong bold colouring is similar to that found on the pieces of the Plât de Ménage.
