An extremely rare and highly important First Period Dr Wall Worcester Coffee Pot and Cover, of baluster shape, the applied handle with rising thumbpiece and kicked out lower terminal. Beautifully painted with colourful sprays of European flowers including a striated tulip, roses, lilies and hairbells reserved on a pale primrose yellow ground, the border painted with puce rococo scroll borders, the handle and spout with further puce highlights and insects in flight, the slightly domed cover with similar decoration and pointed knop finial.

The only example recorded from what was once a clearly extremely important Worcester commission. The yellow ground should be compared to the earliest of the yellow ground junket dishes, which also have the puce scrolled rococo borders together with floral work that can be seen on the baluster vases and covers of the 1750’s. The yellow should also be compared to the heraldic mug in the Ashmolean displaying the arms of the Countess of Errol, which dates to 1757.
