Chelsea Porcelain Model of a Leveret Hare seated on its haunches, Circa 1750-52.
An extremely rare Chelsea Model of a Leveret, modelled seated on its haunches at ‘lodge’, beautifully modelled in great naturalistic detail, its coat with brown and black markings, on an irregularly moulded rocky base applied with light blue and yellow florets and green leaves.
Circa 1750-52.
Copied with inspiration taken from Kaendler’s models at Meissen. The symbolism attached to the hare is age old, for they are sacred to the Celtic goddess of the dawn, Eostre, and are symbols of fertility and the oncoming of Spring.
