An Extremely Rare And Fine Staffordshire White Salt-Glazed Teapot And Cover, Circa 1755-60
An extremely rare and fine Staffordshire White Salt-Glazed Teapot and Cover, of globular shape with crabstock handle and spout moulded with vine tendrils picked out in green, painted on either side with Chinese figures in long flowing silk robes, one standing with arms akimbo dancing as a small courtly musician plays a long oboe- like instrument amongst a formal garden setting with large flowers and vegetation on each side, the other side with a Chinese sage seated holding a fan, beside a garden table, beneath a rococo scrolled border, the turned slightly domed cover with reeded rim and crabstock cover, painted with brightly coloured flowers.
An exceptional large size with many of the floral attributes linking to the earliest decoration found on some Worcester Porcelain and Opaque White Glass. The large scale figures are particularly unusual.
