An extremely interesting Dark Stoneware Peach Shaped Wine Cup or Taster or Libation Cup, Circa 1740
An extremely interesting Dark Stoneware Peach Shaped Wine Cup or Taster or Libation Cup, the circular form with twing handle applied to the side extending to form the feet of the vessel, the exterior stamped and applied with flowering prunus and leaves. A small sparrow beak added to one side to form the lip of the spout.
A very close copy of a Chinese Yixing peach shaped wine cup. Made probably in Holland or Staffordshire and used as inspiration to the form at the Worcester manufactory of Dr. Wall in the late 1750s/1760s.
