A very Fine and Rare Chelsea Gold Mounted Porcelain Bonbonniere of large size, in the form of a Lady’s Head, modelled by Joseph Willems. The beautiful courtier staring outwards towards the viewer, with coiffed naturalistically coloured hair applied at the front with ears of ripened corn, in tones of yellow, green and brown, her face with delicate flesh tints and details to her nostrils and eyelids, with finely wrought gold mounts enclosing the cover and the neck. The interior richly decorated with a large spray of European flowers, including chrysanthemum, roses and speedwell.
This can be compared to a similar bonbonnière illustrated by G.E.Bryant, The Chelsea Porcelain Toys (1925), pl.49(4).
