An exceptional 1st Period Dr. Wall Worcester square-shaped Dessert Dish, Circa: 1770
Item No. 654
An exceptional 1st Period Dr. Wall Worcester square-shaped Dessert Dish, beautifully painted in the London atelier of James Giles with a full central spray of European flowers within a chocolate brown line border entwined with green leaves and a gold dentil rim.
The flower painting on this particular example is quite superb and comes from one of the best skilled hands employed upon this service. Compare with a chocolate cup and saucer in the H.R. Marshall Collection at the Ashmolean for the same hand at work. The leaf border can be compared with a spoon tray in the Coke Collection at the Dyson Perrins Museum, Worcester.
See Gerald Coke “In Search of James Giles”, pl.4, p.176 together with two different services with neo-classical urn decoration pl. 27, p.199.
Dimensions: Length: 9 ½ inches (24.5 cms)
